“We’re at that point where we have to do better in the playoffs.  We have to win the Stanley Cup. That’s what our mission is and Adam’s been to the Finals twice—once as a player and once as a coach—and we want to win a Cup together.”

-Ted Leonsis, owner of the Washington Capitals during the press conference introducing Adam Oates as the Washington Capitals coach.  More from Chuck Gormley of CSNWashington.

I’m disappointed my own owner doesn’t know I went to the finals twice as a player (1998, 2003)

This is not the first or even second person I’ve seen since Oates was named the Caps coach and nominated to the HHOF to omit Oates’ stint with the Mighty Ducks when talking about his career.

We’ve wasted Ovie’s best years because our GM won’t take risks or go for it like Phi,Chi,Pit and others. Tons of cap space but as usual not a peep of interest in any of the elite FA’s. We’ll sign a couple of decent guys like Hudler or Paranteu and Moen and a d man and we’ll lose in the 2nd rd again.
