via Katie Strang of ESPN New York,

“They were probably the softest team we played on the trip. We should have had these two points.”

-Joe Thornton of the San Jose Sharks after losing to the New York Rangers 5-2 tonight.

Rangers head coach John Tortorella after hearing the words from Thornton?

“Wonderful.”

Sounds like the Sharks came into the game assuming they’d win just by showing up. A 5-2 loss isn’t all that surprising if that’s the attitude they had.  And yes, I know this comment came after the game, but it speaks of the attitude SJ had the entire game, they expected a win and didn’t work for it.  Of course when you’ve been handed at least 2 wins on the trip due to atrocious calls, maybe you do start expecting to win without having to work for it.

Words can not express how much I hate Thornton. This ass is the poorest excuse of a NHL captain that I’ve seen in my lifetime. The dive he took during the Wings’ series this past playoffs…when Franzen, FRANZEN! swiped at his skate blade with his stick…is all you need to know about how little integrity this prick has.

“Softest team…” Yeah ok, Joe. Show everyone what a “warrior” you are by leading your team straight into ANOTHER early offseason.

If by “early offseason” you mean after the Wings are already golfing then maybe you’re actually right.

When you look back on the seasons, bottom line is nobody cares about what the Sharks or Wings did more than the other. Boston won the Cup, and Vancouver will be remembered for the riots, if nothing more. But San Jose and Detroit? Irrelevant.

At this stage, at least Detroit has Cups in the history books that will always be talked about by hockey fans all over the world.

And Joe Thornton calling someone soft is freaking rich.

I think he meant they have the softest ice there at MSG.
