“I’m probably the luckiest guy in the hockey world right now. Being a new guy coming in here, and a younger guy too, to be paired up with – more then likely – the best defenseman to ever play, it’s quite an honor.”
-Wings defenseman Ian White when learning he would be paired-up with Nick Lidstrom to start the exhibition season. More from Bill Roose of the Detroir Red Wings official site.

Shit, not Salei, Smith. Saw “S” and my mind went straight to Rusty…

And if you get in trouble pass it to Nick.
There are well over 300 defensemen who wish they could say that. ![]()
And I have to say I’m thrilled to hear White talk like this. It looks like he’s 100% committed to being a team player (i.e., someone who knows his role is to support his partner as opposed to being a “star” himself).
I liked this signing the day it was announced. I like it a whole lot more after hearing White’s comments.

I’m with you, Herm. No offense to Commodore, but I wish to God that Kenny had resigned Rusty instead of signing the redhead. And I have a feeling that thought crosses Tick Tock’s mind on a regular basis. C’est la vi.

People make decisions every day that might alter people’s future. I’ve personally had a similar situation hanging over my head that resulted in someones death. Its not easy to get over… but.. its also their choice that put them where they were…
