...The constant steady and intelligent presence of Lidstrom on the Wings defence — he has never missed more than six games in any season — cannot possibly be replaced upon his departure. At that point, the Red Wings will become just another team. What we don’t know yet is when that day will come
-Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun, where you can read more about Lidstrom as well as more hockey notes.

Just think….$6 million to spend on another defenseman. Lidstrom-caliber? Heh…dream on. But to find one at maybe 85% of Lidstrom quality for that money? Yeah I’ll go with that.

How many times have we heard we’re on the verge of the Red Wings being just “another team”?
Get over it, Hockeyworld, the Wings are good every year for a reason: They don’t rebuild, they reload.

That has to rank up there with some of the dumbest things any hockey writer has ever written. When Nick leaves, he will be missed immensely, no doubt about it.
But will his departure single-handedly drop the Wings into the ranks of the also-rans? Please. This is garbage “journalism” at its worst.
