Kukla's Korner Hockey

Evening Line

I've written in this space for more than 8 years now, and have never called for such change before. It sincerely bums me out to write this, but the David Poile era in Nashville should come to an end this season.

Wait, so giving away Suter for nothing and stupidly locking up Weber is a bad thing?

The problem is:  who are you going to bring in instead?  Nobody is available that’s better-equipped IMHO.

And quite frankly, it looks like teams are what they are now for another 2-3 years, thanks to all the long-term contracts that have been signed.

Trotz is old-school as it gets, he is able to get more out of marginal talent than anyone else in the league, and has been doing this for 15+ years…  Not sure if Phil Housley would be the answer that some folks in Nashville seem to think he may be..

If they didn’t resign Weber what season ticket base they do have would have started dropping like flies…

No.  Surprisingly, locking up one of the best defensemen in the league isn’t one of the writer’s reasons Poile needs to go.

What we’ve seen ever since the summer of 2012, however, is a gentrification of the role players, lavishing too much money and too much term on contracts for Paul Gaustad, Matt Hendricks, Eric Nystrom and Rich Clune. All four are “bottom six” forwards, with all of them under contract through at least 2016 for a combined cap hit of more than $8 million per season. ...

This “Grit Fetish”, as I like to call it, is a preference for perceived characteristics in a player like hard work and character over talent.

Hmmm, sound familiar?
