Evening Line- Steve Simmons

In his time running the Leafs, Lamoriello did more than his job. He may not have been millenial friendly or player agent friendly — some Leafs felt strangled by their surroundings and the lack of personality tolerated — but over three years he exceeded whatever the job description and the expectations may have been.

Lou Lamoriello has reason to be upset. He did his job well. He hasn’t lost a step.

There was no need, Shanaplan aside, to replace him now.

Detroit is in a natural rebuild. Leafs may be “trending up”, but if any team is dysfunctional enough to blow it all, it’‘s them

This was a dysfunctional move and despite the talent one that could really backfire. I know that they were a bit worried about losing Dubas but it would have been better to let him go and stay the course than to take the big chance they are now taking.

Lou doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who wants to go quietly into the night simply accepting the advisory role at this point. If might not be this offseason but I suspect it won’t be long before he is GM of another team again.
