It wasn’t that the Oilers were hopelessly outplayed in the opening period, they actually outshot Dallas 14-10, it’s just they were completely overwhelmed whenever the Stars’ big line was on the ice. Edmonton’s defence pairings looked like deer in headlights, giving up a two-on-one and a pair of easy back door tap-ins to dig a hole they couldn’t climb out of.

The same can likely be said for their season, although nobody in the Edmonton room is willing to admit that with 40 games to go.
