ESPN Hockey Insiders Chat Hockey

The ESPN Hockey Insiders held an online chat today.  Here's some of the highlights...

Pierre LeBrun

The word I'm hearing on San Jose was that going into last night's game, they were viewing the next 2-3 weeks before trade deadline as time to determine how they act April 3; if they start winning games again, they keep the band together for another run this spring; if they keep losing games over next 2-3 weeks, maybe it's time to ``reset'' the program.

Clowe is a terrific player. More skill than Prust. Will be interesting to see what happens with San Jose. I know contract talks have begun between CLowe and SJ but still no deal.

Scott Burnside

Not sure about Cup contender but the good thing assuming they get in is that they've got decent offensive depth up front and a core of guys that have been there before starting with the Staal brothers. Goaltending? Defense? Those are questions when you're talking about a long run but no one thought the '09 'Canes could go to a conference final and I think this team is better, deeper.

Katie Strang

Don't think Torts is in any danger of losing his job, but you do have to wonder if the message is getting a little worn out. Fiery coaches like him often have a short shelf life; it's hard to sustain. Definitely think they should try to trade Gabork if they can find the right deal. Seems crazy to say about a two-time 40-goal scorer but too often he is inconsistent and/or completely invisible.
