Eric Nystrom Traded To Dallas

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has traded forward Eric Nystrom to the Dallas Stars in exchange for future considerations.

Nystrom, 28 (2/14/83), posted 12 points (4-8=12) while skating in all 82 games for the Wild last season. The 6-foot-1, 204-pound native of Syosset, New York has collected 51 points (23-28=51) and 221 penalty minutes (PIM) in 286 games during five NHL seasons with Calgary and Minnesota.

Update 4:00pm ET: Michael Russo at the Star Tribune notes the mutual benefits—

As mentioned on yesterday’s blog, re-entry waivers would not cut it for the Stars’ salary-cap issue. They needed $1.2 million in salary to get to the floor.

Now they get $1.4 million in each of next two years. Wild doesn’t have to pick up a cent.
