Enough Skill

from the Philadelpia Inquirer,
Before the start of free agency, Flyers general manager Bob Clarke said he was going to get quicker on defense, go after someone who could really move the puck up the ice. "I was really surprised to get a call," said Nolan Baumgartner this week during player scrimmages at Skate Zone. "I'm not the fastest skater around." Indeed, Baumgartner is not Joni Pitkanen or Kim Johnsson when it comes to skating the puck with some panache. He can move it because he has skill. The question is, will skill be enough for the beleaguered Flyers' defense, which seems to be the weak link in an otherwise strong chain as players head to training camp? Baumgartner knows that when a hockey player is not blessed with outright speed, skill and brains come into play.
