Enough Of Avery

from Tony Care of CBC,

While Milbury condemned Wisniewski’s action, calling it “ridiculous and immature,” he’s bothered by the notion that Avery is innocent of any wrongdoing in this case.

“He has been a pretty good player, but he’s become a caricature of a professional,” Milbury told CBCSports.ca. “It’s not good for hockey, it’s not good for the image that [the league] is trying to portray. We’re not all poster boys for this business and never will be, but this has gone on far too long with his focus on being a distraction and an agitator rather than honing his craft.

“Here we are we’re talking about Avery again, not because he made a great backhanded pass to set up the game-winning goal, but because he’s part of another unsavoury incident. It’s like watching a car wreck. You know it’s not going to be pretty but you can’t seem to turn away from it until you’ve had a look.”

Milbury is both right and guilty of Avery-like incidents when he was playing.

That *is* his craft.

Really? The guy that climbs over the plexiglass to fight with the fans is calling out Avery? the guy that got in an altercation with blogger on an elevator?  I’m pretty sure Milbury is not very good for the image of hockey.  At least Avery is intelligent and entertaining to the masses.

So wait, Wisniewski was the one out there simulating (insert expletive here) and yet he’s calling out Avery just for being there? I mean it’s not like Avery’s not a douche most of the time but you can hardly blame this one on him.

Oh and hey Milbury, I’d like to introduce you to this kettle.

Is there a bigger f*cking fraud in the history of the NHL than Mike Milbury?

LOL, perfect Jennemy.

Yes, Avery is a jackass, but what exactly did he do in this situation that was so terrible?  That poorly aimed snow shower at DiPietro’s left side?  Really, Milbury?  Milbry can continue to hate Avery as much as we, the viewers, hate that dead squirrel Milbury has stabled to his head, but he could at least make an attempt to discuss the incident here and not just say “Avery is always doing stuff that’s over the line, so he must have done the same thing here.”  As for Avery hanging up the skates, how about Avery agrees to hang up his skates and Milbury hangs up the microphone.  That’s something the fans everywhere can truly be happy about,

Hey Mike, weren’t you the guy who called the Russians Eurotrash on national television after Canada beat them?

STFU you stupid, racist prick.

Well, animals can be stabled.

I do not understand why networks keep giving Milbury air time.

Not to mention, I also seem to recall Mikey talking about Zetterberg and saying something along the lines of “He can’t skate, he can’t pass, he can’t shoot, he’s not all that good.  But somehow succeeds.”

Gee, Mike…just because a player isn’t flashy like the golden boys, doesn’t mean he’s not good.

Avery had been accused of using a “masturbatory” gesture during the pre-game skate and there was already a lot of jawing prior to the drop of the puck. No video footage available to my knowledge so it becomes hearsay and not much can be done about it. However, going with precedence on Avery, he’s certainly not an innocent bystander and I probably wouldn’t give him the benefit of the doubt in the court of public opinion.

Milbury is a tool, but at least for once he finally implies that he knows he is (e.g. not a poster child for the NHL).  If Avery gets Wiz suspended for a game, then I have to concede he did his “job”. The one point I do agree with Milbury is that there were some exceptional hockey plays (see: Bailey backhand to Comeau for the winner) and all we are seeing covered is the three ring circus.

Those who can’t do, coach.  Those who are embarrassments to the sport, broadcast.  Isn’t it great that we get to watch GM’s like Matt Millen and Mike Milbury on TV?

Milbury is right on on this one.  Something he did like 30 yrs ago doesn’t disqualify him from judging Avery.  The thing is though, a lot of fans love Avery and they love him because of his extreme arrogance and disregard for propriety.  They think its a good thing.

First, off, I can’t stand Avery, I just want to clear the air on that.

Secondly, I find this whole thing hilarious..partly because Avery IS a c**ksucker and also because Wiz knew he was gonna get in trouble, but went ahead with his gestures anyway.  Unfortunately, it only furthers the image that hockey is not a “family” sport (Even the minor leagues are doing their best to further that image right now too.  See: Pauls post re: the 193 minutes in the CHL game.  Blood, cops, surgey, forfeit…yeah..ugly business).

With that said, I disagree with the whole “in the court of public opinion” statement regarding Avery.  If Avery really did make “obscene” gestures towar Wiz, then he apparently was smart/sneaky enough to do it off camera.  If he gets caught in the act, then he also deserves the same punishment that Wiz recieves.  However, without proof I’m strongly against holding him accountable based on hearsay.  Wiz got caught on video..that’s his mistake and now ot’s time to pay the piper.  Avery may or may not have gotten away with one here, but inncocent until proven guilty, right?

Posted by WingsFaninCO on 10/12/10 at 06:53 PM ET

That’s exactly why I stated in the “court of public opinion”, precisely because it carries no weight and comes with no form of punishment. I agree Avery can’t be held accountable by the NHL since he wasn’t caught doing anything, but we all kind of know that if anyone deserves it is probably him. Avery got away with it and goaded Wiz into doing something stupid . So Avery did exactly what he intended and suckered Wiz
