Edmonton Oilers Sign Tyson Barrie

EDMONTON, AB - The Oilers have agreed to terms with free agent defenceman Tyson Barrie on a one-year, $3.75 million contract.

The 29-year-old has scored 80 goals and 266 assists in 554 career games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche, the latter who selected him 64th overall at the 2009 NHL Draft.

The Victoria native's career-best season came in 2018-19 with Colorado as he tallied 14 goals and 45 assists in 78 games. He had five goals and 34 assists in 70 games with Toronto last season.

Barrie has also scored one goal and 13 assists in 26 post-season games.

(Edmonton, AB) - The Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with defenceman Tyson Barrie on a one-year contract through the 2020-21 season. The one-year contract has an annual average value (AAV) of $3.75 million.

Barrie, 29, appeared in 70 games last season with Toronto, posting 39 points (5G, 34A), 16 penalty minutes and a -7 plus/minus rating. He also played in five games with the Maple Leafs in the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs, recording two penalty minutes and a -2 plus/minus rating.

The 5’10”, 190-pound forward has appeared in 554 career NHL games over nine seasons with Colorado and Toronto, accumulating 346 points (80G, 266A), 179 penalty minutes and a -66 plus-minus rating. Barrie has also recorded 14 points (1G, 13A), eight penalty minutes and a -1 plus/minus rating in 26 career playoff games.

The Victoria, British Columbia native has represented Canada several times internationally, most recently at the 2017 World Hockey Championship, registering seven points (2G, 5A) and a +5 plus/minus rating in three games. Barrie also played for Team Canada at the 2015 World Hockey Championship and the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship.

Barrie was Colorado’s third round selection, 64th overall, in the 2009 NHL Draft.
