Edmonton Oilers Sign Riley Sheahan

(Edmonton, AB) - The Edmonton Oilers have signed free agent forward Riley Sheahan to a one-year contract.

Sheahan, 27, spent last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Florida Panthers, appearing in 82 games, recording 19 points (9G, 10A) and17 penalty minutes.

The 6’3”, 214-pound forward has now appeared in 447 career NHL games over eight seasons with Detroit, Pittsburgh and Florida, posting 149 points (58G, 91A), and 77 penalty minutes.

From St. Catharines, Ontario, Sheahan played parts of three seasons with the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins, capturing a Calder Cup in 2013. He also spent three seasons (2009-12) in the NCAA at the University of Notre Dame.

Sheahan was originally drafted by Detroit in the first round, 21st overall at the 2010 NHL Draft.
