So the Flyers founder is chasing the Cup in the twilight of his Hall of Fame life like Lord Stanley’s chalice is indeed the Holy Grail.
The potential acquisition of Shea Weber is the latest and most poignant ploy to kiss the cup. The Nashville restricted free agent is considered the top all-around defenseman in the league and Snider is reportedly willing to make him the highest paid player in franchise history.
The chairman of Comcast Spectacor, who will turn 80 years old during the middle of next season, isn’t waiting for the promising core of the Flyers’ young players to make a Cup push in five years or so. Snider isn’t waiting to draft the next Wayne Gretzky, either, since the Flyers are willing to part with four first-round draft picks as compensation for Weber.
He is “all in,” in his quest to put another Cup on top of his legacy.
