from Mark Zwolinski of the Toronto Star,
So here’s a look at 25 trends in the NHL as it hits the quarter pole this weekend:
1. The Leafs still need a big centre for the No. 1 line, an issue that won’t go away, particularly with four-games-in-six-nights scenarios on the condensed schedule.
2. Paul MacLean is still a great coach for the Ottawa Senators — no sophomore slip.
3. Coach Randy Carlyle is taking the Leafs in the right direction.
4. The Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin is washed up — who knew?
5. Speaking of good coaches, how about the job Todd McLellan is doing for the San Jose Sharks?

According to trend 24, players like Datsyuk or Zetterberg or any of many good defensemen, such as Keith, Chara or Pietrangelo don’t deserve any consideration for best player.

18.Dany Heatley is off to a sizzling start with the Minnesota Wild but has been dropped to the second line to spread the scoring around on a goal-challenged club.
i also don’t understand how heatley, who’s -3, was demoted to the second line, and has 6 points amid 11 games, is off to a “sizzling” start. he’s a shell of his former self…what?

Mark Zwolinski of the Toronto Star needs to learn what “trend” means. Most of those are just observations, and poor ones at that.

I love the genius of Nugget 19…” the standings are very tight in both conferences, and that should continue” Thanks, Einstein. This never happens 10 to 12 games into a season. When did the Toronto Star start hiring middle schoolers to write for them?
