Early Morning Line- Bob McKenzie

via Bob McKenzie tweets,

It’s my understanding NHLPA conference call tonight was spirited if not raucous. While exec committee voting won’t be finalized until Friday, some believe Don Fehr may already have or will get the mandate to accept NHL RTP plan but not overwhelmingly so.

Which is to suggest that even if there are enough votes to pass, it may still be a tough call. Emotional issue, as one might expect. We should have more clarity in the next 24 hours.

added 9:58am, via Michael Russo tweet,

Further to the Godfather's thread, I'm also told by multiple guys that there were a # of unhappy players on last night's call. Emotional issue based on a number of factors: Testing, safety, leaving families, pay and the belief this should be a full player vote, not Exec Board

It’ll be interesting to see if this leads to a player strike.

Highly doubt that, but we could certainly see numbers of players opt not to return to play. This is an interesting situation because of the mixture of players in this sport whose families live outside of North America.

I hope by full players vote they mean only the players on those 24 teams as I would think the proposal voting should be limited to only those players that would actually have to participate.

March-December is a long layoff for these Wings. DeKeyser had back surgery in December so it’s good he gets time to rest, rehab, and rebuild his strength. Same goes for Zadina and his foot. A few other prospects that were injured too—yet I can’t think anything but how bad this will be for the team made up of young players (especially those in North America where rinks will be closed for the foreseeable future

You also have a few veterans who might benefit from an extended off-season giving their bodies chances to recover and/or extending their careers. Let’s hope Stevie doesn’t go crazy with Holland type extensions for loyalty weighting the rest these players got this year as a way to project future performance.

Oh man, if he starts giving out loyalty contracts after one year we are all in deep, deep trouble.
