Bob Murray on Justin Schultz: “I’m more confused than ever now. I read everything…If he had it in his mind he wanted to play in Canada..”

More Murray: “OK, I get that. I’m a Canadian too. But Eric Lindros when he didn’t want to play in Quebec, he went to his team…”
— lisa dillman (@reallisa) July 2, 2012
More Murray: “He said, No, I’m not going to play there and he allowed that team to make a move to get something for him.”

Murray on the loophole: “It sure better (be closed). This is very unfair. Not only to the organization. But it’s unfair to Ana Duck fans.”
— lisa dillman (@reallisa) July 2, 2012
Bob Murray: “It’s just wrong. I sure hope the NHL realizes they dropped the ball big-time.”

That is true Hoot. But, he has a valid point. The nhl aint the nba. The ducks should be able to get something for him.

Bob Murray should stop whining. Should the CBA be fixed so that certain drafted players can’t walk away because of the college loophole? Yes. But Schultz had every right to do what he did, and pick his destination, under the CBA as it presently exists. He didn’t owe the Ducks or, sorry, their fans anything.

Agree that the rule should be changed/tweaked. But does Murray seriously think Schultz should have signed with the Ducks and then asked for a trade so the Ducks could get something for him ?

Ryan wants out. Schultz signed in EDMONTON to get away. Is Anaheim the new Hockey Siberia?

To be fair, when Schultz was attending games with Murray after the college season was over and blowing smoke up his about how excited he was to play for Anaheim, he could’ve told Murray the truth and given Murray the chance to trade his rights.

Yeah, I’ve heard similar stories. As much as I generally dislike the Ducks, it’d be pretty devious if Schultz was intentionally deceptive for years while plotting his free agent escape move. Not that it doesn’t happen everyday in other walks of life.

This. Murray’s not upset that the guy didn’t want to play in Anaheim. He’s upset that he didn’t communicate that until he was a free agent.

Maybe if you didn’t run your team into the ground and alienate all of your players, it wouldn’t be so hard to convince talented young prospects to sign on. Food for thought, Murray.
