Ducks Furious Over Kronwall Hit & Penalty Calls

from Eric Stephens tweets, Selanne:

Ducks were furious about the disparity of calls after the game and Niklas Kronwall’s non-call on apparent elbow/shoulder to Selanne’s face.

“That guy is dangerous out there. One of these days, somebody’s going to get him. I know that. It’s just a matter of time when.”

More Selanne: “Every 50-50 call is going to go in their favor. We knew it. It’s not a secret for anybody.”

(more) “As long as I’ve played here, it’s always the same story. You almost know. They get at least three power plays in the first period.”

So how do they explain the fact that they ended up taking 3-1 and 4-3 leads in second and third periods in which no penalties were called?

For being a team that prides itself in (supposedly) being tough they sure are a bunch of whining little bitches.  Every single time they lose they find a reason why it wasn’t their fault.  They scored 4 goals after we scored our only PP goal, so I don’t think that was why we won.  But beyond that, maybe the fact that the entire team is filled with undisciplined punks is why they’re always in the box.  Ever think of that, Teemu?

crybaby whiners with short memories - I seem to recall a certain WCF series in 2007 where multiple episodes of gang violence went uncalled in Anaheim…

The irony of the leagues great goon squad complaining about officiating seems to be lost on you.

I’d rather look at the the gold mine those back to back posts were.  It was a gift set up.  Someone had to do it.

Yeah, John W., get back on message.

It’s funny to hear Selanne bitching about non-calls considering non-calls are the single biggest reason he’s got a Stanley Cup ring.

Wait. Is Pointy-head talking about Getslaff or Fairy? What? He’s talking about Kronwall? Um, okay. Well, then I guess he’s taken more pucks off the head behind the bench than we’ve noticed.

When you’re 3-5-1, this is what a “quality” coach resorts to – finger pointing and crying. Waaaaaaaaahhhhh.

The folks in SoCal must be sooooooo proud.

Randy Carlyle runs an undisciplined team and he constantly whines at the refs.

Is that in dispute?

Actually this is coming from Selanne, not Carlyle this time.

“Kronwall clearly jumped and shouldered him in the jaw,” Carlyle said. “‘Went for his head. You can see the replay. And the referee says I didn’t see any illegal act. Well, I said, ‘You better look at the replay.’

“Two players collide in the middle of the ice, Franzen and Corey Perry. We get a penalty for it. I’m just sick of it in this building.”

So where are the call for Carlyle and Selanne to get fined for disparaging the refs and the game?

The penalty to Perry was a terrible call.

The Kronwall hit, under the current rules, was no worse than borderline. It wasn’t an elbow to the head, and his feet came off the ice after contact, not before. Like I said in the other thread… I think this type of hit SHOULD be made illegal… but as is, how could the refs have punished him for it?

Also, let’s not forget intent. Selanne and Kronwall were both going toward the puck. Kronwall got his arms up and was ready for contact.

Meanwhile, seconds earlier, a Ducks player took a clear run to elbow Franzen in the head. He didn’t connect, but if you are looking at intent alone, this play had way more dirty intent than Kronwall’s.

Perry was looking right at Franzen, who was going off the ice. It wasn’t an accidental hit. He was trying to break his timing, hit him and maybe get a 6 men on ice penalty.
