Ducks Continue To Win

from Scott Burnside and Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,

Burnside: Greetings, my friend. Well, every day it seems the playoff picture in both conferences becomes murkier and murkier. And the Anaheim Ducks are doing little to clarify the situation by continuing to collect points at an alarming rate. Wednesday they knocked off Carolina in overtime, two days after besting Calgary in a shootout. In their past 15 games, the Ducks are 11-2-2 and, while they remain in 13th place in the Western Conference, they have pulled to within eight points of the eighth and final playoff spot….

LeBrun: I had a chance to catch up with Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau before the team departed for Detroit this morning. There’s definitely a buzz in the Ducks’ dressing room that something special could be happening, despite the long odds.

“There’s a sense of optimism, for sure,” Boudreau told ESPN.com.

“The guys are believing that it’s possible. If we ever get to within six or four points, it’ll be a real race.”

more plus some Phoenix, Calgary, Washington and Winnipeg talk…

Why are we surprised?  This the same old Ducks story.  The team gets called for all of there penalties at the beginning of the season, and they stink it up.  Then the league changes the way they make calls mid season, as always, and all of the sudden the Ducks are a great team, and sneak into the playoffs.  Then in the playoffs, where the league stops making calls all together, they make a run because there dirty play is actually an asset there, until they run into Detroit, San Jose, or Vancouver, and then the reality of what a terrible team they have sets in.

Hootinani , you may want to brush up on your “Ducks history”. Apparently you’ve forgotten the Ducks defeated Detroit AND Vancouver en route to their ‘07Stanley Cup victory. And San Jose has NEVER won a playoff series against the Ducks. Facts are uncomfortable things, sometimes, but they do occasionally come in handy.

Vancouver from 2007 =/= Vancouver from 2011

Besides, it wouldn’t even take one of those teams now. Last year’s terrible Ducks team got bounced by a squad that had never won a playoff series before.

I hate the Ducks as much or more, than any of you, but the OP’s reductionist post makes a typical Mike Milbury analysis look genius by comparison.

Boudreau has clearly had a significant impact on team play in the last month and bears actual responsibility for the current turnaround in team play, unlike the “Shanny and the boys letting the goons have the run of the house for the second half of the season” argument.
