Doughty Causing “Crisis” in LA?

From Jamie Fitzpatrick at About.com Hockey:

If you want crisis, look to Los Angeles, where the Drew Doughty impasse threatens to cut down a promising Kings’ season before it even begins.

The Kings insist it’s business as usual without their franchise defenseman. They aren’t fooling anyone.

Doughty’s absence hangs over the team like a guillotine.

Alanah, you’re better than this. Really? Is there not enough excitement going on up there in Vancouver that you have to create some “crisis” in LA? First off, you cite a guy who knows as much about hockey as Vancouver fans know about class. No? he cites one Kings blogger as evidence of this crisis - and not even a good one at that! He has no quotes, no evidence that any crisis is taking place. Little does he know that the Doughty holdout has shown the Kings that their defense corps are even deeper and stronger than they originally thought with Voynov and Muzzin NHL ready and Hickey and Deslauriers a year or two away. Crisis? Holdouts happen all the time and the fact that Doughty has missed a total of 4 days of camp really should not sound any alarms at this point. Doughty will sign and all will be forgotten soon enough. I’d concentrate more on where the Canucks are going to get their secondary scoring from ...oh and about that defense…

I agree with you, I don’t consider it a crisis, either. It’s a negotiation. Difficult, but not devastating.

But I didn’t link the article because I endorse it, only because I thought it might stimulate discussion, knowing that there are some journalists that see the situation in such extreme terms.  (Also, I thought his RFA information page might be useful to some people.)

I’m sorry you disagree.

For me, this is a help. It’s why I don’t grumble about links to writers that some consider idiots, morons, or what have you.

Stupid opinions don’t disappear just because some people think they are stupid and don’t want to be bothered with them. They are there and part of the sports landscape. We can ignore them, but we should at least be aware of what we are ignoring on some level.
