Does The Signing Of Jagr Make The Flyers Stanley Cup Favorites?

from Mike Bertha of the Philly Post,

In 2011-12, he’ll don a sweater of orange and black and hope to play his role in ushering in a new era of Philly hockey—one where the goaltending is consistent, the partying is out of the press, the wins are frequent and the losses are few and far between. An era where a Jaromir Jagr goal leaves Rangers and Pens fans rolling their eyes and throwing their arms up in futility and disgust. An era where, for the first time in 37 years, Lord Stanley’s Cup is in Philly and the Flyers float down Broad Street.

that headline made me laugh out loud…

the writer speaks of an “era” of Jagr, lets be serious, he has maybe one or two years left in him, tops, and that is NOT an era…

so let me see If I got this straight? Philly trades Richards &Carter; because they Party too Much & are problems in the locer room & they get Voracek who Aaron Portzline a BJ’s beat writer says Voracek has to grow up in a lot of ways, Simmonds who is a 3rd Liner & Jagr who is a Petulant Bi-Polar Manchild egomaniac who is a Gambling addict who Pronger despises & Pronger is an egomaniac with very few seasons left & is certainly on the decline

UMMM Yeah that is a SC winner in the making LOL

I had to quit reading when it stated he lead the Penguins to back to back Stanley Cups.  He was a rookie the first year we won and did contribute heavily the second year but lead us?

Once Lemieux was out of the picture did he lead any team to even a conference final?  I don’t remember but I think the answer is no.

So a team that dumps two key players for underachieving youngsters and signs an aging, immature has-been while adding an unproven playoff goaltender to play behind an old, slow defense is the favorite to win the Cup?

Independence Day was yesterday, yet from the looks of this headline we went straight to April Fool’s Day.

My, how time flies.

The Flyers really need to temper Philly’s expectations of a 39-year-old Jagr. He’s not there to be “the guy,” and people thinking that he will be is setting him up for failure and them for disappointment.

At least Philly’s trying to remain positive. Or, they’re in complete denial over the fact that Homgren just dismantled the foundation of the team.

This is the same press that told us Stamkos was coming via an offer sheet Tampa Bay couldn’t match.

This is the same press that told us after the Flyers made their presentation, they were among the front runners for Brad Richards.

This is the same press that told us locking up Lieno was amost done.

This is the same press that told us Handzus was coming back to Philly early on July 1.

This is the same press that continues to tell us the Flyers are a better team without Richards and Carter.

Quite Grimm, the tales and next season.

This article was funny.  The headline should’ve been, “Does Signing of Jagr Make the Flyers Look Like the Islanders?’  The Flyers still have a decent team, they are just crazy.  Their cap management is non-existent.  Every move they make reeks of lets sign this guy now and whatever happens later happens.

Hey NHLJeff -

The Philly fans know what to expect of Jagr.

Limited ice time
15 goals on the power play
Some goals in OT and in SOs
The scoring touch that left with Carter
On-ice smarts to be passed on to G and JVR

Nothing is a given anymore in the NHL. Everything is a gamble. Carts has vaporized in the playoffs for the last 2 years. Richie and Carts spent WAY too much time at Dusk (nightclub in Atlantic City) DURING THE PLAYOFFS in the last 2 seasons. Richards may have been a Captain, but he was not vocal and not a motivational leader. We can’t do any worse than those two.

It doesn’t matter much what you do during the regular season, it’s what you do in the playoffs that count. Hot goalies win the cup.

See you next May or June!

Posted by #8 The Hammer from Bleeding Orange and Black in Philly on 07/06/11 at 09:42 AM ET   UMM Drink the Senile Snider Kool-Aid Much ?? the reason you haven’t won a SC since “75” is because Snider is an incompetent buffoon! who hires incompetent buffoons to be GM Boobie Clarke & Paul Holmgren to name a couple ! So again they traded Richards & Carter because they Partied too Much Eh? Did you know that Aaron Portzzline said About Voracek after the trade came down :Jakub needs to grow up in a lot of areas” yep that looks good Traded Richards for a guys Simmonds who fell so fast he went from an untouchable to being traded for a glorified 3rd Line C & Schenn who played in the Minors even though The Kings Desperately needed a C & they signed Jagr who is a Petulant Bi-Polar Manchild & gambling addict within a hop, Skip & a Jump from AC NJ & a Goalie who they vastly overpaid
