Doan Wants A Certain Edge To Coyotes Style Of Play

from Jim Gintonio of the Arizona Republic,

The Coyotes have played with an edge since Dave Tippett took over as coach two seasons ago.

This time, says captain Shane Doan, something a little extra has to be there to begin the process of erasing the bitter taste of a four-and-out first-round playoff exit last season against Detroit.

“I wasn’t too happy with the way it ended, I don’t think anybody was,” Doan said. “You’re embarrassed at the way that it ended last year. Hopefully, you kind of carry that chip on your shoulder forward and make it so that you do respond and that we do have a good start, and we’re ready to.”

So the first guy to be suspended for a Rule-48 violation wants the Coyotes to play angry.

Okey doke.

How about starting off by getting angry that Kyle Turris thinks he’s worth $4M a season?

Hee, hee, I think you’ve nailed it.  This whole fiasco out between the cactus would be hilarious except it casts the NHL is such a horrid light.

I see Shane Doan as a clownish pseudo-goon at best.  If he is the leader of that team, the team is going nowhere but down.

Regardless of what some in Red and White may think. Doan is a great leader who plays with heart. Sometimes he may cross the line, but not because he lacks the drive and determination. To pawn him off as nothing more than a clownish goon is a pretty warped perspective.

I laughed when I saw this article.  Same stuff, new season.

And he is a goon, a crazy-eyed goon.

Why would a player who lacks drive and determination ever cross a line?

Doan’s got tons of heart. Sense is what he lacks.

I agree – but I’d also add that respect is the other thing he lacks.

There’s a huge difference between playing with an “edge” and playing with a willingness to injure people. In the past two seasons, Doan has proven he plays with far more of the latter than the former. And, after his latest statements, I would expect that trend to continue.

I was a fan of Doan until the playoffs against Detroit these past 2 years. He was a dangerous player on the ice and not in a good way. The Coyotes are poised to have a really bad season without Bryzgalov around to bail them out.
