Reports from MSM at NHL headquarters state no indication of Disclaimer of Interest filed by the NHLPA.
What does that mean? Well, negotiations continue on as the have the last few days.
Bruce Arthur of the National Post in a story filed earlier this evening stated...
But with the ability to hold a re-vote and to refile, exercising the disclaimer was never the real deadline here. It took five days to complete the player vote last time, and there was a belief a re-vote could be conducted faster. With eight days left until Bettman’s Jan. 11 deadline for a 48-game season — which does not necessarily mean a drop-dead date, since these things can change — the lever would be available later, either way.
The other lever for the players, of course, remains time, though there’s less every day. The league clearly does not want to cancel the season, and the players are clearly banking on the pressure of a deadline to focus the NHL’s mind. We are in a dangerous place, where brinkmanship could intrude; the players were said to be pushing the league harder with the disclaimer deadline at their backs.
In the grander scheme the issues seem like details, brush strokes. But they are not. Not yet.
