from Brett Cyrgaus of the NY Post,
Rick DiPietro doesn’t need motivation. The Islanders goalie doesn’t need outside pressure and expectations, doesn’t need the judging glare of the hockey world or the critical eye of the New York fans to get him up in the morning, to get him to the rink on time, to get him to be the best damn goalie he can be.
All of that pressure comes internally for DiPietro. And all of that pressure sits on his broad shoulders this season, which technically started yesterday when the Islanders players showed up to IceWorks in Syosset for the first day of training camp that included off-ice testing and physicals.
“I put a tremendous amount of pressure on myself,” DiPietro told The Post. “The Islanders made a huge commitment in signing me to that long-term deal and I fully expect to be back and healthy and make good on that promise that we’re going to bring the Stanley Cup to Long Island.”
