Devils Tickets For Brodeur Jersey Retirement Are 255% Higher Than The Devils Home Average

10/06/2015 at 7:15pm EDT

By Joe Sudberg,

A new jersey will hang from the rafters of the Prudential Center later this season. Beloved goaltender and future Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Martin Brodeur will become the fourth player in New Jersey Devils history to have his number retired when he is honored on February 9 prior to the Devils’ home game against the Edmonton Oilers.

Fans will be paying big ticket prices to get into the February 9 game. According to TiqIQ the cheapest February 9 Devils vs Oilers tickets are now listed for $288. The Devils are offering several “ticket packs” that start at $148 per seat to four home games this season, which include the game and a potential meet-and-greet with Brodeur. The current average price on the secondary market is $408.91.

The celebration doesn’t end just there, either. A statue will be erected to commemorate Brodeur’s outstanding NHL career and is set to be placed on arena grounds once completed. He'll join Ken Daneyko, Scott Stevens and Scott Niedermayer as the sole players to have their jersey retired by the Devils. All four players were pivotal to the team's three Stanley Cup years between 1995 and 2003.

Brodeur capped a 22-year professional career earlier this year when he announced his retirement. 21 of those seasons were played with the Devils, which spawned three Stanley Cups, five Jennings Trophies, four Vezina Trophies, a Calder Trophy and four elections to the first-team league All-Star team. Brodeur holds several NHL records as well, including most wins for a goaltender (691), most saves (28,928) and most shutouts (125).

The night will easily be the most expensive home game for New Jersey as no other game has an average above $200. The next home expensive game comes against the New York Rangers with an average price of $185.01 on February 2. Across the entire season, Devils tickets have an average price of $114.59 on the secondary market, 256.8% above the season average. A limited number of single-game tickets to Brodeur’s ceremonial game will go on sale at a later date, the Devils’ homepage claims.

Cheap flights to New York City on Hipmunk.com can bring Devils' fans to a transportation hub with multiple options to get to this special Devils home game. Hotels near the Prudential Center on Hipmunk start from $74, with three other options starting from less than $100 to complete the Devils road trip.
