Devils, Maple Leafs & Rangers To Host Most Expensive Games of 2015-16 Season

10/19/2015 at 7:20am EDT

By Joe Sudberg,

Seldom does a 78-point team from the season prior boast the biggest ticket prices on the secondary market, but the NewJersey Devils are breaking from the norm in 2016. The Devs will retire Martin Brodeur’s number prior to their February 9 matchup with the Edmonton Oilers, and the game will be the most expensive of the 2015-16 NHL season on the secondary market.

Exorbitant ticket prices won’t stick around Newark quite like they do in Toronto, New York and Chicago, however. The hockey capital of the world is known for gaudy ticket prices despite a less-than-stellar roster, and both the Blackhawks and Rangers back their demand up with perennial playoff pushes. From The Six to Midtown Manhattan, all three teams will own some of the most expensive NHL tickets this season on TicketNetwork.com.

With Brodeur set to become the fourth Devil in franchise history to have his number retired, it comes as no surprise that the New Jersey faithful are paying massive prices to see the future Hall of Famer’s name and No. 30 hang from therafters. The average secondary market price for Devils vs. Oilers tickets to Martin Brodeur Night is currently $755 and the get-in price is $230. Individual tickets for the game have yet to go on sale, however, and will likely have a considerable impact on prices once they become available.

The oldest rivalry in the NHL will rep notable ticket prices when the Maple Leafs host the Montreal Canadiens at Air Canada Centre on January 23. The 803rd meeting all-time between the two teams currently owns a $498.17 average and $143 get-in price on the secondary market. Despite tallying just 68 points last season the Maple Leafs’ two home games against the Canadiens each year tend to garner massive ticket demand. Last Wednesday’s showdown in Toronto posted an average price of $327.44 and a $92 get-in price.

The Rangers, who again look to claim the top seed in the Metropolitan Division, are also known for their larger-than-life ticket prices at MSG. A slew of home games average above $350 but none exceed the $400 average. The most expensive game takes place on April 7 against the crosstown New York Islanders. The average price for New York Ranger ticketsis $398.95 and the cheapest ticket is listed for $115.

The United Center will also play host to several top-priced games this season. Known for their perpetual dominance both on the ice and secondary market, the Blackhawks will host several games at United Center that average above $350. They’ll play their top-priced home game against the Detroit Red Wings on March 6, when tickets own an average price of $372.25 and the get-in price is $131. Other top-priced games include January 1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins ($368.51 avg./$134 get-in) and April 3 against the Boston Bruins ($367.83 avg./$140 get-in).
