Kukla's Korner Hockey

from Dan Barnes of the Edmonton Journal,
In Edmonton, Nikolai Khabibulin is right now giving the Oilers the kind of consistent play in goal that is an absolute must for a team like his and last year’s Avs, both rebuilding projects laced with many youngsters on defence and up front. If his rock-solid performance (and yes, it has been just two games) comes as a surprise, it’s only because of everything he’s been through and put himself through in the past year, health-wise and in the legal system, not based on the bigger picture of his National Hockey League history, or even his complete Oiler tenure.
He was, after all, a team MVP candidate for 18 games last fall, before a back injury put him on the shelf for the rest of the season. If his aging physique holds up, and he said he has yet to feel any ill effects from exhibition games and a season-opening shutout over Calgary, his stellar play probably will too. And if that’s the case, there is every chance the Oilers are going to be this year’s can’t-miss kids for as long as that combination holds.
I know there is sports betting in Canada and wonder if the Oilers have what it takes to win it all this season?
