from the CP at TSN,
NHL player Shane Doan and longtime Liberal MP Denis Coderre have reached an out-of-court settlement to bring an end to their defamation dispute.
During the 2006 election, Coderre demand Doan be barred from Canada’s team for the Turin Winter Olympics.

Reports are that the settlement will allegedly be paid out entirely in Poutine.

Unfortunately this is how it works today. If someone disagrees with you or does not like you for some reason, they accuse you of bigotry. it’s almost as bad as calling someone a child molestor. There are some very vicious people in positions of authority who don’t care who they hurt or even destroy with baseless accusations. I’m glad Doan went after this guy.

I never understood how Doan got dragged through the mud on this one. He’s one of the classiest guys in the league, was talking to his goalie at the time of the accusation, and the linesman even named a different Coyotes player.
“At the end of the second period, I spoke to Mr. [Rick] Tocchet [the assistant coach] to tell him I would not tolerate any more racial commentaries like ‘YOU F—-ING FRENCH’ from the number 17 Ladislav Nagy(notes) or from any other player,” - Michel Cormier
