Darryl Sutter Heads To The White House With Agenda In Hand

from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail,

The President of the United States is about to get an earful on the Keystone XL pipeline from an unexpected source: the head coach of the Los Angeles Kings.

Darryl Sutter – who is also the owner of a 3,000-acre ranch near Viking, Alta. – plans to weigh in on the pipeline debate when Barack Obama plays host to the reigning Stanley Cup champions on Tuesday.

“I’m gonna ask him about it – damn rights I am,” said Mr. Sutter.

A parade of Canadians have made their way to Washington in recent weeks to win Mr. Obama’s backing for the controversial pipeline, which would transport 800,000 barrels a day of oil-sands bitumen to the world’s largest refining hub on the U.S. Gulf Coast.

“How can we not want to keep North America [energy self-sufficient]? Why does the border have to separate that? It doesn’t make sense. For sure, I’m going to ask him.”

Anyone want to tell him about how oil is an international commodity, and the oil won’t be staying in North America once it is refined?

I’m sure he knows that, but there is no other way to make this deadly, carbon rich sludge sound like a good thing.

I have started to dislike these annual trips. It began with the fact Obama has no use for hockey, so it seemed dumb to go visit. Then we had last year’s fiasco with Timmy and his bag of nuts. Now this year we have hockey coaches giving advice on oil pipelines. Enough of this joke, end the annual WH visit before it becomes a real disgrace.

Is he really going to get to talk to him long enough to do more than shake his hand?  I doubt it.

And I’ll bet you back that up by never using a gasoline-powered vehicle or buying any oil-based products. Yah, didn’t think so.

They always have a small, 15-30 minute reception prior to the photo-op in the Rose Garden.

Not to sound like a pharmacist, but that’s an association fallacy. Tar Sands =/= all petroleum, and a single person boycott of all petroleum =/= action re: tar sands.

Got it. So he only refuses to use petroleum products created from tar sands. He must be a very smart pharmacist to be able to do that.
