Daily Observations

from Stan Fischler of The Fischler Report,

* All signs indicate that Drew Doughty was playing possum all season. Now he's playing like the best defenseman of the post-season.

* Some smart g.m. will give serious thought to signing soon-to-be UFA Matt Niskanen, hitting his peak at age 27.

* Just wondering; was that the same Antti Niemi who once won a Stanley Cup in Chicago? Ergo; Wha' happen, baby?

Wow, this guy must have some friends in really high places to get info like this.

I’ll go out on a limb and hazard a prediction that even some not-so-smart GMs will give some serious thought to signing Niskanen.

I don’t know about you guys, but I thought Doughty had a fantastic year and was probably in the top five of every Norris ballot out there.  He was playing huge minutes (nearly 26 per game) for the top defensive team in the league.  He’s a top possession player and plays in all situations for the Kings.  He may not get points like Subban or Karlsson, but neither of those guys have anywhere near the defensive acumen that Doughty has.

Doesn’t exactly scream possum to me.  Kinda obvious to me that Fischler doesn’t watch a whole lot of Kings games to claim that Doughty wasn’t among the best D all season.
