via ESPN tweet,
Extremely pleased to announce that @CraigCustance will be joining ESPN’s hockey coverage as the new Insider blogger.
Since we are talking insider (paid) information, do/will you pay for the service?

Who in their right mind would pay for coverage from a network that treats the NHL like a sideshow when the best hockey coverage on the web is available for free. *cough* *Kuklas Korner* *cough*

I paid for this “service” for a year, mainly to receive ESPN the Mag, and while that aspect of the deal was worth it, the online content was lacking, especially anything related to NHL news, compared with free outlets like TSN or the greatest site known to man, KUKLAS! Thanks Paul and all that contribute

This isn’t going to get me to pay for insider access, but it’s one more step in the right direction for the print side of ESPN.

I haven’t paid and will not pay for “Custance coverage.”

So ESPN’s essentially going to mute one of the best sportswriters in the industry? Great…
ESPN’s Insider service is cost and content prohibitive to people who only follow hockey, so if Custance leaves the Sporting News for this gig, it’s just going to limit Custance’s audience and impact in a big way.

My spam filter blocks all four letter words and four letter networks fall under this category. I won’t pay for coverage from a network that pretends the sport doesn’t exist.

Too much free information out there, not sure why anyone would pay for this?

George, you took the words right out of my mouth. I’m sure the money is better for Custance, and the brand recognition, and maybe he’ll end up doing some TV spots (ESPN News?), but it certainly does shut him off from most serious hockey fans.

I wouldnt pay for this, I believe as many others do, that TSN’s insiders are much more connected and accurate. They also provide their information free. McKenzie & Dreger are unbeatable!
