Crosby Update

via the Pittsburgh Penguins,

An independent specialist contacted to review recent medical tests taken on Sidney Crosby found no evidence of a past or present neck fracture but verified that Crosby is suffering from a soft-tissue injury of the neck, that could be causing neurological symptoms.

Dr. Alexander Vaccaro is a spinal trauma expert at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and co-director of the Spinal Cord Center at Thomas Jefferson University. He is past president of the American Spinal Injury Association.

Crosby’s agent, Pat Brisson, along with Penguins owner Mario Lemieux and CEO David Morehouse traveled Monday morning to Philadelphia, where Vaccaro reviewed a CAT Scan and MRI taken last week by Dr. Robert S. Bray in Los Angeles. Bray diagnosed a neck injury.

Bray has treated Crosby with an injection to alleviate swelling in the C1-2 joint of the neck and will be overseeing his progression with therapists.

Doctors say the symptoms of a soft-tissue neck injury are similar to concussion symptoms.

Vaccaro, Bray and UPMC doctors all agree that Crosby is safe, the injury is treatable, and he will return to action when he is symptom-free.

Wonderful news.

So Bob McCown was wrong again (besides getting “C1 & C2” correct). So everyone jumped the gun when taking a report from someone who is not Crosby, the Penguins, or HIS doctors, and running with it. Not surprising.

Great news.

I think Antoine Vermette had that in juniors, unless I’m getting him confused with someone else. If I’m not mistaken, he missed a year thinking it was PCS, had it treated and is now, otherwise fine, apart from being a Blue Jacket.

He still should have had a MRI ! but we get back to the Problem that Sid Like Jagr & Mario does what he wants

So once again Sid is his own worst enemy & great news for Pens & Especially Pens & Sid

Yeah, I don’t know who you blame for all of this. Even the doctor who finally found this problem also offered an additional diagnosis of broken neck, which the President of Neck Doctors or whatever he is now says is complete crap.

Yeah, too bad Crosby and Lemieux advised the doctors against an MRI. They’re loose cannons!

No doctor said it was a broken neck.

Bob McCown on Saturday said he got a call wednesday from a source saying Crosby’s C1 & C2 were fractured. Pat Brisson, Crosby’s agent said there was an abnormality found in his neck in response to McCown’s report.

The diagnosis of Dr. Robert S. Bray, a neurological spine specialist based in Los Angeles, is that Sidney Crosby had suffered a neck injury in addition to a concussion.”

Pretty sure Brisson’s first comment on the matter said “fracture.” He changed it to abnormality an hour later. I think.

EP’s wild accusations about the Penguins letting their stars do whatever they want have so many inconsistencies I don’t even know where to begin.  I’ve started to type responses to him so many times over the past couple of days…just to throw up my hands in frustration at how ridiculous it is.

Good news about the broken neck or whatever everyone was thinking/told it was.  This sounds way more manageable…maybe they can get it fixed and we can all get back to watching Crosby demand that certain players play on his line sooner rather than later.

Yep Mario didn’t Get Scotty Bowman run off the Ice & then out of town ! didn’t Get Gene Ubriaco & Tony Esposito fired .Yep Jagr didn’t demand To Play with Jan Hrdina & Kip Miller! For *#$%@& Sake when he was traded to to the Craps in short order they signed Kip Miller1

Yep Sid doesn’t want Dupuis & Kunitz as his wingers ! So Many inconsistencies for the Kool-Aid drinkers who believe what ever the Pens/Media tell them

Nope Sid doesn’t tell them where he wants to play on the PP.Nope I am imagining all theses thing right ?

Unless you’re in that room hearing those things first hand, then you have zero basis on what you’re saying.  Where did you hear these things from?

I mean…Kunitz and Dupuis couldn’t have been on Sid’s line because they had chemistry or anything, right?  66 points in 41 games probably means nothing, huh?

The “Kool Aid drinker” bullshit is old, too.  I’m as skeptical as anyone.  I just don’t jump to fantastic conclusions without any evidence whatsoever.  Don’t tell me you’re going to quote all these Pittsburgh journalists that you speak so highly of everytime something is posted on here…

You may be getting at something with that. It’s so unfair that Crosby hogged Dupuis from Malkin the last couple seasons. Jerk! Jordan Staal had chemistry with Kunitz but Sid comes back from injury and takes him away. Unfair!

Sid tells them where he wants to go on the powerplay. Luckily he likes to play from the goal line and the half wall, where he’s effective. Damn coaches want him playing the left point, but Crosby is bull-headed and gets his way.

Geez Louise, the best player in the world gives/has input on the team he captains!?! HE’S ON A POWER TRIP AND SHOULDN’T BE RE-SIGNED BECAUSE DUPUIS BELONGS WITH RICHARD PARK!!!!!

What I don’t get is that it is well known, at the very least, among Pens fans that the clubs in the 90s had a very country club like atmosphere.  It wasn’t just Lemieux and Jagr that did whatever they wanted, it was everybody.  Did it hurt them later?  Most definitely, as that group of stars should have had at least another Cup with all that talent, but they still came to play come game time, which is really all that matters.

As far as Sid goes, I’ve never hear anyone say he was a bad teammate or gets special treatment.

On behalf of Red Wings fans? I’m glad that he’s OK and I really hope that we’re complaining about Crosby being a great player instead of an injured one really soon. Seriously.

Otherwise, if Crosby’s recovery is serving as a model for the rest of the league, it seems to always come down to musculoskeletal issues regarding persistent post-concussive symptoms that aren’t related to the brain injury itself.

When Andreas Lilja was out for over a year he had an issue with his neck and upper back that was eventually addressed via a chiropractor, and we should never discount the fact that when players suffer head injuries, it’s entirely possible, if not probable, that their necks and upper backs also absorbed the blow, and are just as susceptible to re-injury and causing complications in concussion recovery.

Maybe it’s a reminder worth considering after league-wide focus on what is really a science in its infancy in terms of the diagnosis and treatment of concussions has been so narrowly focused on the brain as opposed to the brain as the most fragile part of a nervous system which needs to be treated as just that—a system—instead of trying to separate the brain from the body which it’s attached to.

I hope this is the last piece in the concussion puzzle for Crosby, and I hope he can finally get back to playing hockey soon.

Sid complained that No one Picked on him like they did all the other Guys why is that ? Becuase they know Sid rules the Roost! See what happened when Boudreau tried to clamp down on Jaws & Jizz?? Yep he is in Anaheim

The NHL Has Been special rules on the team for superstars for quite awhile

See what happened when Boudreau tried to clamp down on Jaws & Jizz??

It`s certainly not possible that Boudreau was wrong in trying to get Ovechkin to change the way he plays.  I mean, it`s not like his game suffered when Boudreau tried to bend Ovechkin to his will…

Special treatment?  Sure.  But that’s not what you’re saying.  You’re saying that these guys have basically had the run of these Penguin teams.  There’s a difference.  And unless you have substantial proof that they were allowed to do exactly whatever they wanted I don’t believe you.  And that’s because you don’t have proof.

So I don’t believe someone who spouts off wild accusations, I’m a “kool aid drinker?”  Wrong.  Ridiculous.  Very, very stupid.  Something we’ve all become accustomed to with your posts over the years, I suppose.  Very, very dumb.

Penguins and Crosby doing the right thing.  He’s a young guy.  take some time and get diagnosis right and let him heal.  Nothing anyone can do about half baked media rumors about his present of future.  Just take everything you read with a grain of salt.  Crosby is doing a lot of guys a favor by bringing so much attention to this problem.
