Coyotes Sign Brian McGrattan, 1 Year

via press release:

Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed right wing Brian McGrattan to a one-year contract.  As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

McGrattan, 26, was acquired from the Ottawa Senators on June 25, 2008 in exchange for a fifth round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

McGrattan recorded three assists and 46 penalty minutes (PIM) in 38 games with the Senators last season.  The 6-foot-4, 234-pound McGrattan has registered 2-8-10 and 287 PIM in 143 career NHL games over three seasons, all with Ottawa.  In 2005-06, he set career-highs in goals (2), assists (3), points (5), PIM (141) and games played (60).

From 2002-2005, McGrattan appeared in 196 games with Binghamton of the American Hockey League (AHL), recording 25-22-47 and 1,051 PIM.  In 2004-05, McGrattan broke the AHL single-season penalty minute record with 551 PIM.

A native of Hamilton, Ontario, McGrattan was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
