Coyotes Issue Statement On Brett MacLean

GLENDALE, ARIZONA—- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney has issued the following statement regarding Coyotes forward Brett MacLean who suffered a cardiac emergency last night in Owen Sound, Ontario.
“Brett was playing hockey last night in Owen Sound, Ontario when he suffered a medical emergency,” said Maloney. “Brett received CPR on site and was taken to a local hospital by ambulance where he was treated. He was then transported via an air ambulance to Knight University Hospital in London, Ontario where he was admitted to the cardiac ICU. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brett and his family. We request that everyone please respect their privacy at this time. We will provide an update on Brett’s status when information is available.”

That is scary, indeed, especially for someone who well remembers the Jiri Fischer incident.

I’ll ask, not to make any kind of point but because I’m genuinely curious. What kind of hockey is he playing in July? Do the local rinks keep rec leagues going up there go year-round or something? He’s a 23 year old NHLer/AHLer, what can he play? I’m just curious because they made it sound like it was some kind of organized hockey…
