Could The Canucks’ Dressing Room Be Divided?

from Tony Gallagher of the Vancouver Province,

Wednesday when the coach was enjoying a self-serving, post contract-extension conference call with the media and took a break from listing his accomplishments to tell everyone he didn’t think the American centre’s injury was a factor in his poor playoff performance.

Kesler’s agent Kurt Overhardt danced pretty well Thursday before saying his client was “perplexed” by Vigneault’s comments. And while the player wasn’t talking publicly, he wasn’t amused…

Kesler has some friends on this team, some of whom are not fans of Vigneault to begin with and who were very much unimpressed with the lack of preparation for the LA Kings series. They will not be thrilled at these latest developments in the least. They could easily find themselves in disagreement with the country club types who very much like Vigneault’s ‘let the players take ownership’ style whereby he’s never in anyone’s face. That group is almost certainly led by the Sedins who enjoy all the good things life has to offer here, and we’re not just talking the wine on charters and in house executive chef.

So, Gallagher knows what all the GMs are saying and he knows what Kesler’s buddies in the locker room are saying. Man, this guy is good.
On a serious note; Kesler is a douche (and maybe, just maybe a cancer in the locker room) and calling him out is old school good. Me likey.

If Vigneualt is never in the players’ faces about their performance, then speaking to the media where you’re calling them out is a shitty move.

Kesler’s a douche, but if Vigneault has a problem with what he’s doing on the ice, that discussion belongs behind closed doors.

Gallagher has a problem/personal vendetta with Vigneault, obviously.  I really wish this guy would stop writing about the Canucks.

I’ll always remember him for how badly he was schooled by Shawn Thornton (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjRiUOWqwyw)

But my main problem with him is spreading these kinds of stories (true or not, but I’m pretty sure he’s making this stuff up) which can cause problems within the locker room

The canucks just came off of two president’s trophy winning seasons, not too bad and something to be pretty proud of.  But this reporter still has the idiocy to imply that there’s a locker room division.

The last time this happened with the Canucks was with Linden and Bure dividing the team, which eventually lead to the team blowing up it’s roster and basically sucking for a few years

By the title of this piece, I thought it was going to say the locker room was going to be divided so that one side is for men and the other for whining, diving beaches.

If Gallagher is outright making things up, then the players’ agents should be destroying him for it.

I doubt he’s making it up. It sounds plausible to me. Stretching the truth perhaps, embroidering the edges some? Sure. But just making it up from nothing is very unlikely given his desire to keep his job.

As for his point about their chances of winning, he’s right. Not to say they can’t/won’t win a Cup next year, but it gets further away each season as the roster stands now. They already blew their best chances.

I’m not a fan of Vancouver as a team. I like some of their players and I used to be a fan. That Boston series cost them the respect of nearly every non-native Canucks fan. And their coach does come off as a bit of a pompous ass.
