Cory Sarich Waiting For A Phone Call

from Vicki Hall of the Calgary Herald,

Sarich sat down with general manager Jay Feaster in May for an exit interview to conclude the 2011/12 season. Since then, he has heard nothing from the Flames.

In all honesty, he hopes they’ll call before July 1.

“I’m very, very open to being here again,” he said. “I think we’ve got a pretty good group of guys. I like being in Calgary. There’s obviously a few things that need to change with the lack of success we’ve had in the last few years.

“But I’d excited to be a Calgary Flame again.”

The last time around in free agency, Sarich signed a five-year deal worth $18 million. The dollar figure will likely be significantly less this time around, but don’t discount the role Sarich played for the Flames last year on the back end.

A healthy scratch at times in the fall, the six foot-three 210-pounder logged upwards of 20 minutes a night by the end of the season on a pairing with Jay Bouwmeester. If Sarich leaves, the Flames will dearly miss his physical presence.
