Newark, NJ – The New Jersey Devils today re-signed goaltender Cory Schneider to a new multi-year contract. The announcement was made by Devils’ President/General Manager Lou Lamoriello. As per club policy, no further terms were disclosed.
“With today’s signing, we have solidified our goaltending for the present and the future,” said Lamoriello. “Cory demonstrated throughout the year what he could bring to our organization, both on and off the ice.“

Isn’t that a bit much for a goalie as unproven as he?

143 games in to his career with 2.12 GPA and 9.25% save percentage. Not sure he’s unproven; that being said 7 years is a long time for a goalie. Very few goalies manage to keep their stats up over time. Remember Mason? Neither do I.

And just how far in the playoffs has he gone? Case rested.

Yeah, but the most games he’s ever started is 45. I’d say that’s still pretty unproven, at least to get starter money.
