from David Staples of the Edmonton Journal,
This in from the NHL Network, some stern criticism from analyst Mike Johnson.of Connor McDavid’s defensive play on three Anaheim Ducks goals in Game Three.
Johnson first pointed out McDavid’s fly-by of a Hampus Lindholm point shot on Jacob Silfverberg’s first period goal. “That’s not good enough,” Johnson said. “You got to stick your nose in and block that shot.”
He then pointed out another McDavid d-zone fly-by on Shea Theodore, allowing the Ducks defender to set up Silfverberg in the slot for the Ducks fifth goal.
“He looks for a poke-and-go. He flies by,” Johnson says. “You’ve got to step into him here. And McDavid elects not to because he’s looking for the cheap offence. He doesn’t have to. He’s got to stick his nose in and play better defence.”
