Colin Campbell Needs To Go

from Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe,

Not an easy act for the Commish. Campbell has been a good foot soldier doing a dreadful job for a long time. Now he has been shown to be a man documented to have an embarrassing bias, doing a job that demands impartiality and fairness. That alone makes his play offsides.

Bettman kept Campbell on the job in March when his dillydallying and foot shuffling left players with heads scrambled, careers in jeopardy. One of them, that “little fake artist’’ Savard, only hopes he gets to resume his livelihood. Best now that Campbell finds work elsewhere.

Actually, “newspapers” actively covered up these specific e-mails as far as I’m concerned. There’s really no other way to say it.  The only reason they were printed in a newspaper is because a blogger discovered them and posted them on his site, so the newspapers had to grudgingly cover the story. Had that not happened, these e-mails would’ve been thrown down the memory hole and never heard about again. The establishment hockey media can’t be offending NHL executives…they’ll get their VIP access cards taken away.

It’s funny how not one person who has a major voice in the hockey media has pointed this out. Has anyone asked the Toronto Star how they could justify doing a story about Dean Warren’s labor relations case while disregarding the most damning e-mails from Campbell? No follow-up story? Nothing?

I mean, I know the answer, it would jut be nice if someone held their feet to the fire over this. But, of course, that won’t happen.

He’s right on in saying that it is time for Campbell and Bettman to go but we all know what will happen.  They’ll keep on the same and the NHL will refuse to protect its players.  I wish people who actually cared about the game ran the NHL.

The way NHL discipline is handled needs a major overhaul.  It’s a very incestuous league with very little fresh air allowed.  Actually Bettmans appointment as commissioner was an earthshattering event for the NHL.  They always come off looking backward and narrowminded compared to the other pro sports leagues. The repeated attempts by many to justify cheap shots to the head continues to baffle me.
