Cogliano Traded To Anaheim

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired center Andrew Cogliano from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a second-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Cogliano, 24 (6/14/87), appeared in 82 games for the Edmonton Oilers last season, collecting 11-24=35 points with 64 penalty minutes (PIM). Cogliano has not missed a game since making his NHL debut with Edmonton in 2007-08, appearing in all 82 games in each of his four NHL seasons. The 5-10, 185-pound center ranked fifth on the club in scoring and assists, third in game-winning goals (3), and led the team in games played. He also paced all Edmonton skaters with a career-high 461 faceoff wins.

I think it’s safe to assume, at this point, that Andrew Coligliano has fractured his vertebrae(all of them), lost a limb, or is no longer among the living (condenses to the Coligliano family).

If not, this deal would be totally out of whack given the current Edmonton to Southern California exhchange rate.  They should at least have gotten a pair of firsts!

I thought that was a fairly obvious joke but I guess not.  I’ll explain:

Edmonton has been shipping injured players (Brule, then Gagner) for healthy veterans worth far more than the injured players they’ve been trying to unload.  So, the joke is, if another team in Southern California is overpaying for Edmonton’s injured players, surely the ducks should’ve vastly overpaid for this guy is he’s remotely healthy.

Obviously, no, no one thinks he’s worth a first, much less two.

Easy there, it was Fraser not Gagner.  And the fact they are getting more in return has nothing to do with the story.  Smyth put LA over a barrel and the Oilers took full advantage, arguable too full.

All that said, your post was hilarious, at least to those that got it!
