Cody McLeod Signs A One-Year Deal With The New York Rangers

NEW YORK, July 12, 2018 – New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Cody McLeod on a one-year contract.

McLeod, 34, skated in 48 games with the Nashville Predators and Rangers this past season, registering one goal and three assists for four points, along with 111 penalty minutes. He tied for second in the NHL in major penalties (13) and ranked sixth in the league in penalty minutes in 2017-18. McLeod skated in 25 games with the Rangers during the past season, and he led the Blueshirts (min. two games played) in hits per game in 2017-18 (3.0; 76 hits in 25 contests). He led all skaters with eight hits while making his Rangers debut on February 1, 2018 vs. Toronto, and his eight hits were the most a Ranger recorded in one game during the season.

The 6-2, 210-pounder has skated in 738 career NHL games over 11 seasons (2007-08 – 2017-18) with Colorado, Nashville, and the Rangers, registering 71 goals and 55 assists for 126 points, along with 1,563 penalty minutes. McLeod ranks second in the NHL in penalty minutes and major penalties (157) since the start of his first NHL season in 2007-08. He has been credited with at least 140 hits in seven of his 11 seasons in the league, and he established a career-high with 268 hits during the 2014-15 season. During his tenure with the Avalanche, McLeod served as an alternate captain for five seasons (2011-12 – 2015-16). McLeod has skated in 38 Stanley Cup Playoff games in his career, and he helped Nashville advance to the Stanley Cup Final during the 2016-17 season.
