Clowe’s Agent On The Trade Talks

from Louis-Andre Lariviere of TVA Sports (translated with a little editing by me),

Kent Hughes, Clowe's agent  officer, told the TVA Sports as the Sharks try to exchange the attacker. Namely if the trade transaction can occur as early as Monday night, given the withdrawal of Clowe from tonight's game training, Hughes responded that it is a precaution. "A match before the trade deadline (Wednesday, Ed), Sharks prefer not to run the risk, he said. They want to share. Difficult to say whether it will (Monday) or if it will wait until the deadline. "

However, he indicated that Clowe lift its no-trade clause provided to join a team that has a chance to win the Stanley Cup and who would be interested to give him a new contract in the summer.

"Without doubt, these are the two key factors," said Hughes.

Someone emailed me the human translation of the article…

Like Jarome Iginla, who was traded just hours after being a surprise scratch for the Calgary Flames, last Wednesday, Ryane Clowe was withdrawn from the San Jose Sharks lineup just before Monday night’s game against the Vancouver Canucks.
Clowe’s agent, Kent Hughes, told TVA Sports that the Sharks are ‘‘commited to trading him’’ and therefore won’t risk playing him in San Jose’s last game before the deadline.

when asked if his client could be moved on Monday night, Hughes said the Sharks acted as a precaution.

‘‘Not convinced it happens tonight (Monday), said Hughes. It could go down to the trade deadline with unexpected teams.”

However, Hughes did mention that Clowe would lift his no-trade clause provided he joins a team that has a chance to win the Stanley Cup and which would be interested in re-signing him during the off-season.

“No question. These are the two key factors,” said Hughes.
Clowe’s $3.6 million contract expires at the end of this season, after which he will be an unrestricted free agent.

Habs in the mix

As of Monday, the Montreal Canadiens were among teams in the hunt to land Clowe, but Hughes did not want to say if Montreal was among the front-runners to acquire 30-year old Clowe.

The Boston Bruins and New York Rangers are also rumoured to be setting their sights on the 6-foot 2, 225-pound forward, who has no goals and 11 assists in 28 games with the Sharks, who’ve just won four-straight.
