Chris Stewart Breaks His Hand In A Needless Fight

If Chris Stewart, the Avalanche’s leading goal-scorer and rising star, hadn’t suffered a broken left hand in a second-period fight during Colorado’s 7-4 rout of Minnesota on Saturday night at the Pepsi Center, Greg Mauldin would have been the story — and a very heartening one at that.
But because Stewart’s willingness to drop the gloves and throw punches proved to be costly, his injury stole much of the attention.
“Chris fractured his hand,” Avalanche coach Joe Sacco said after the game. “He’ll be re-evaluated in the morning, and we’ll know more.”
