The table is set for the potential greatest bailout in NHL history; Brian Campbell unloaded by the Hawks to the Panthers and Dale Tallon.

I thought Campbell has an NTC?

Think it is a conditional 7th from Chicago.

(likely the one acquired for Kovalev)

Also, Potulny is in the AHL on a one year deal - so that’s pure help for Binghamton fans that have recently seen their team plundered by the incredible shrinking Senators.

Yep, 8 teams on it that are approved.  Considering Tallon signed him to the obnoxious deal, I’m sure there’s plenty of loyalty between those two.

Decent stuff here on the situation:

Interesting, but one has to wonder why Tallon would want to re-acquire a contract that was one of the big reasons he lost his job in Chicago.

His losing the job there obviously didn’t hurt his reputation given that somebody believed in him down in Miami.

There are strong ties between the Hawks/Panthers/Thrashers ownership/management teams.

The Panthers have effectively purged everything off of their defensive roster today with Allen and Wideman departing.  Recall a year ago on this deadline day that Vokoun to the Hawks was a big rumor, I wouldn’t be surprised to see that go down either.

Does that mean he gets carte blanche to bring in a terrible contract?  One that ALREADY bit him in the ass?

More than that, if he’s smart does he WANT to hang that albatross around his neck again?

Recall a year ago on this deadline day that Vokoun to the Hawks was a big rumor, I wouldn’t be surprised to see that go down either.

It was a completely ridiculous rumour last year with the Hawks already knowing they’d have to dump massive salary at the end of the season though, and other than one speculative “hey, wouldn’t it be interesting if” article, it hasn’t really been rumoured at all this year, has it?

Besides which, with Florida rebuilding and getting rid of a bunch of bigger, expiring contracts, I can’t imagine why they would bring in a huge, bad contract with five more years on it.

Per reliable Sens blogger SensChirp, the condition on the second round pick from Chicago relates to which second rounder it will be - Chicago has 2nd rounders from CGY and ATL as well.

I couldn’t agree with you more.  Seeing how momentum of roster shedding was taking place in Florida earlier today and how some decent mainstream outlets were insinuating a possible deal taking place it seemed like it might happen.

Campbell’s salary is undoubtedly the worst in the NHL right now, the only (il)logical landing spot for him still seems like Florida, and with a non-existant fanbase there would be nobody for Tallon and the Panthers brass to worry about.

Time will tell I suppose, the longer Campbell stays in Chicago the more humorous their situation appears.

Sens GM Bryan Murray says Potulny will start with the NHL squad, which is a bit of a surprise.

The Sens only give up the 7th if Potulny re-signs.

Which 2nd rounder to be given up to the Sens is to be elected by Chicago prior to draft day.
