Via TSN, the Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch reports bad news regarding Chris Phillips:
Speaking to the Sun in a telephone interview from his cottage outside Ottawa, Phillips confirmed Saturday morning he suffered a small crack in a disc in his back while trying to make a comeback from surgery to repair the bulging disc that hampered him all season.
Phillips certainly won’t be ready for the start of camp Sept. 17 at the Canadian Tire Centre.
“It’s a significant setback and it’s very frustrating,” said Phillips, who was fully recovered from the surgery and had returned to the ice on Aug. 20 for the first time. “The surgery went well and everything on that side was great. I don’t know if it was a complication of the rehab and I’m not 100% sure how it happened.”
Phillips said day-to-day tasks at home are difficult as a result of the injury.
“It’s been a pretty tough time. After awhile that takes a toll,” he admitted.
