Chicago Lost $19 Million

from the Chicago Daily Herald,
When asked at the news conference to introduce newly acquired winger Martin Havlat if it was a must for the Hawks to make the playoffs next season, Wirtz made his answer quite clear. “It’s not an option,” Wirtz said. “If you look at our record since the playoffs began, the Blackhawks have always been in the playoffs. The last six or seven years, we have not been in the playoffs except once, and that is not acceptable.” When the Hawks missed the playoffs last spring, it was the seventh time in eight seasons they had failed to qualify. In one of his rare sessions with reporters, Wirtz said the Hawks lost $19 million last season and projected a loss of $20 million in 2006-07. Wirtz blamed losses on sagging attendance at the United Center and missing sponsorships following the lockout that wiped out the entire 2004-05 NHL season.
