You have to think Kane and Toews are saying get me out of here.

I heard they are listening to offers on Dach.

I expect him gone next.

Wow. Does Ottawa really think he’ll resign there when he becomes a UFA?

Dreger posted there was no discussion of an extension prior to the trade. Maybe ott knows better than to try now.

Chicago is officially in rebuild status.

Agree, Paul. They probably want to win.

Chicago needs to pick a direction and stay in it.

Mark Lazrus of The Athletic,

DeBrincat is 24. In his five-year career, he’s had two 40-goal seasons and scored at a 50-goal pace in the COVID-shortened 2021 season. Drafted as something of a one-trick goal-scoring pony, he’s been a point-a-game player the last two seasons. He’s emerged as a legitimate two-way force. He kills penalties now, too, and does it well. He has a tenacity and a scrappiness and a fire that belie his diminutive stature and soft-spoken public persona. He was on track to be a future captain of the Chicago Blackhawks. And just as importantly, he actually wanted to be here, the one stalwart star who truly bought in on the first attempt at a rebuild two seasons ago, who wasn’t waffling on his commitment to the team throughout a trying 2021-22 campaign.

Well, the Blackhawks just traded him to the Ottawa Senators for the hockey equivalent of two lottery tickets (the Nos. 7 and 39 picks in Thursday’s first round, along with a third-rounder in 2024), the opportunity to draft two players who — if history and the scouts who have evaluated this year’s draft are any indication — most likely won’t ever amount to anything close to what DeBrincat is and will continue to be for years to come.

Because the Blackhawks don’t think they’re as bad as they need to be and they’re actively trying to get worse.

Yay, sports!

Would be a seemingly tough choice to opt for rebuild.

But ya take the early rebuild now or go down with the ship like the Penguins. In 5 years, what position would you rather be in?

Yeah it’s really curious the Hawks opted for those first and second round picks to be in this draft.

I would have made that trade to acquire him, absolutely. He does more than just score, he plays a full 200ft game.

Did they just trade 40 goal scorer for nothing?

No, silly.

They traded a 40 goal scorer for thoughts & prayers.

Does Scotty Bowman still work for the Blackhawks?

What a mess Chicago is.

I have lived in the Blackhawks broadcast area my whole life, I’ve followed the team closely.  Through the years, as a Wings fan, it’s been kind of interesting that the Wings/Hawks tend to always be on opposite trajectories.  We were kind of fortunate to see the teams talent levels cross around the 2008-2012 seasons where these teams really battled it out with each other.  Those matchups were intense, and very close.

The Wings future is taking shape and looking brighter by the minute, meanwhile Chicago today officially started a hardcore rebuild.

The talk around this is so great. Ottawa was going to trade out of 7, but Murray nixed the trade. Instead, Ottawa used 7 in a package for Debrincat.
Murray with the most clutch save of his career!

They are giving away the farm for free, thinking that will land them Bedard next year. Risky.

What a massive mistake it was to sign Seth Jones then. No way the Hawks are decent team during his time there.
