CBA Meeting About To Begin

update 4:15pm, For all the times for my ISP to go out, sorry for the late update...

from TSN,

The National Hockey League and the NHLPA have broken off talks for the day following over an hour of closed door discussions.

The NHLPA presented and discussed three different offers to the league in hopes of bridging the gap.

NHL commissioner Gary said following the meeting that none of the offers "even began to approach 50-50" and said he's concerned that it's a step back.

"This is the best offer that we have to make," Bettman said of the proposal from the league earlier this week. "The fact is, we're nowhere close to what we proposed."

So, I’m guessing anytime Leipold opens his mouth, everyone in the room will start to laugh?

I’m sure Leipold speaks on behalf of the Predators as well.

SCENE:

[Leipold enters the room, Parise and Suter are on the other side of the table.]

LEIPOLD: Oh… hey, guys.

PARISE: Hey Craig, how you doing?

SUTER: have you seen my kids’ pictures? I’ll show you their photos.

[Steps besides Leipold, opens wallet. While his kids pictures go down, a stash of $100 bills falls down on the floor]

LEIPOLD: [embarassed] Eh, Ryan… I think those are yours.

SUTER: No, Leipold. it’s your money. Don’t you want it back?

END SCENE.

ESPN is saying that the NHL was disappointed by the NHLPA’s 3 offers and that it’s a “step backwards.”

So basically….no hockey.

Considering on Tuesday he said that the NHL doesn’t negotiate publicly THEN made the NHL’s proposal public THEN said it was because he was tired of “mischaracterizations being leaked” THEN said today was a “step backwards” (A public negotiation ploy), THEN leaked a single detail about the players’ proposal without any context (which is essentially leaking a mischaracterization), then yes.

I’d say Gary Bettman is pretty much the devil.

Honestly, how can you fault Gary on that?  Players were coming out all over the place on twitter and other social pathways basically giving their two cents on certain portions of the proposal.

The players never said they weren’t cool with more-open negotiations, Bettman did.  Also, every player-led tweet that I saw didn’t include a mischaracterization.

It’s Gary.Ass.  Just FYI.  And he’s been commish for three work stoppages. Unprecedented for one midget. Defend him if you want, and clearly you want to, but those are the facts.

And that should about do it, boys and girls. Hunker up close to your local college, semi-pro,  or junior team, because the NHL won’t be back for a very, very long time.

Which is clearly why he said he wouldn’t get paid if the NHL lost the season to a lockout.

Fehr won’t take a salary. How noble.

How will he ever get by on his NHLPA-funded SUV? His “stipend”? His “costs and accruals” of expenses he must write off when traveling, meeting at swanky restaurants, etc? Will his expense check even buy him a hot dog on the streets of NYC??

Poor Fehr! Poor players!

Fuch ‘em both.

Hahahaha. Look who’s conflating to jump to the side of Evilpens.

Please, folks. The argument isn’t that Fehr is noble,it’s that he’s not the selfish devil that Windex Bob up there said he is.

Back off the rhetoric ledge, please.

J.J. relax, just because I don’t necessarily agree with you doesn’t mean I am “conflating to jump to the side of Evilpens”....speaking of a rhetorical ledge.

You almost seem to take it personally if people don’t automatically hold up a crucifix and garlic to the owners, and don’t throw rose petals at the feet of the players. (I’ll see your rhetorical ledge and raise you one)

Strange, that.

Almost? I’m insulted that you think my convictions are so weak.

But you don’t agree with me about what? Are you saying I said Fehr is noble or are you saying you think Fehr is only looking out for himself (in stark contrast to Bettman)?

What, exactly are we disagreeing about?

Have them on the TV while doing some work on the computer. But it still makes me disagreeable, because I see a league that isn’t a total shit show.

I’m glad I didn’t come into today with any high hopes. I don’t feel so let down now. I am extremely disappointed, but it sure wasn’t unexpected. One thing that does bug me is the fact that of the third proposal(willing to go 50-50 now if current contracts are 100% face value) the NHL isn’t interested. Does that mean they aren’t interested in honoring current contracts and guarantee them at 100%? Just shows how much of a scumbag Leipold really is. And explains quite simply why he threw so much money at Suter and Parise this summer. He knew he wasn’t going to honor the amount agreed upon with not only a handshake, but both parties signature on the document as well as being notarized. You have a legal binding agreement here. This will get worse before it gets better.

WTF is Mrazek doing in Toledo and Pearce in GR?

on the plus side, while McCollum is leaking like a seive Mrazek almost posted a shutout in his pro debut on a Walleye team who’s motto is “what’s defense?”

Our World Juniors star is slotted under MC and Pearce.. crazy.
