Carey Price Doesn’t Like Being Run By The Opposition

from Pat Hickey of the Montrteal Gazette,

The Canadiens’ all-world goaltender started throwing punches with his blocker after the Devils’ Kyle Palmieri crashed into him in the dying seconds of the first period.

“I got run on the first goal and I wasn’t going to take another one,” Price said after the Canadiens beat the New Jersey Devils. “I got fired up, I guess. I’m going to stick up for myself now.”...

Price said running the goaltender has become common because the referees aren’t handing out penalties.

“It seems to be the nature of the league, to go hard to the net, run the goalie and score the goal,” said Price. “You have to stick up for yourself once in a while.”

So now it’s not a matter of if the puck has entered before the interference, but if it will enter despite the interference.

Not a fan of that whatsoever.

Funny…no mention of Petry driving Palmieri into Price.  It’s become a pretty common occurrence for dmen to run guys into their own goalies.

When did the standard change?  Was that the standard at the beginning of the season?

The situation room’s explanation does not match up with the referees explanation.  The situation room is stating that the referee determined the puck had already crossed the line when the interference occurred. (Which is clearly not the case)

Even if that is the new “standard” I don’t think you could argue that it would have been impossible for price to make the save.  Sure his 5 hole is wide open but goalies fairly regularly end up bringing their feet back together to make a save.  Also did the contact prevent price from closing his 5 hole in the first place?

The Evil Garden Gnome wants more scoring so very much all attacks on the goalie are legal at the moment.  When one of the premier goalies is injured so severely that his career is in jeopardy, this will change.
