from Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province,
How can the Canucks add a forward without making the same mistakes they did with Sami Pahlsson and Roy? That is, acquire someone who actually makes the team better.
The Canucks have made offers for Steve Ott before, and he could be traded out of Buffalo this year and can probably be had for cheap.
His $2.9 million salary cap hit would be prohibitive here though. The same could be said for Wayne Simmonds, who is reportedly available and loved by the Canucks, but maybe not at his $3.9 million cap hit.
The best fit, depending of course on what Tortorella thinks, appears to be Marcel Goc, the $1.7 million centre in Florida. The Panthers may be eager to make moves but seem in no rush to trade the cheap, minute-chewing forward.
Even if they were, he wouldn’t exactly ignite the fan base here, and especially being yet another ex-Panther coming to Vancouver, a path that has been marred by a couple of appalling deals.
